Description & Mechanism

PEG-MGF is a pegylated derivative of Mechano Growth Factor (MGF), a splice variant of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) associated with mechanical stress–responsive signalling in muscle and other tissues. PEGylation is employed to modify physicochemical properties such as stability and resistance to enzymatic degradation in experimental systems.

In biochemical and cellular research models, PEG-MGF is used to investigate IGF-1 receptor–related signalling, satellite cell activation pathways, and growth factor–mediated intracellular responses. Experimental studies focus on receptor interaction dynamics, downstream signalling cascades, and comparative behaviour relative to non-pegylated IGF-1 variants. Observed effects are dependent on experimental design, concentration, and model system, and are used to explore signalling mechanisms rather than defined physiological or clinical outcomes.

Applications in Research

• Investigation of IGF-1–related signalling and muscle mechanotransduction pathways
• Study of growth factor stability and PEGylation effects in vitro
• Comparative research involving IGF-1 splice variants and modified peptides
• Use as a reference compound in growth factor and peptide modification studies

Handling, Reconstitution & Stability

• Handle using appropriate peptide-handling procedures
• Reconstitute in sterile water or suitable buffered aqueous solution
• Gently swirl to dissolve; do not vortex
• Filter sterilize if required (e.g. 0.22 µm) immediately prior to use
• Aliquot and store reconstituted solutions at –20 °C (or lower)
• Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles
